Respecting the Past, Protecting the Future

Last Saturday I found myself in Sublimity and saw what appeared to be a fairly old cemetery. I though I would take a few minutes and have a look.

One of the first headstones I encountered was this one with the cross being part of the headstone. It was an interesting design feature since it merged the cross and stone into  one both visually and physically.

As I continued to walk there were several where the cross or portions of the cross had fallen victim to time and weather. What I found interesting was that the pieces had not been collected and thrown away but remained as they fell or were stacked reverently beside or on top of the headstone.

Several other crosses were part of the headstone, designed to last well into the future.

This last headstone had the added feature that you could add fancy Celtic knots into the cross.
